Other Activities of the Highland Lakes Honor Guard

The Highland Lakes Honor Guard is actively engaged in other community activities by participating in a variety of patriotic programs, throughout Burnet and Llano County. Note, however, that the Highland Lakes Honor Guard is not a color guard. Local need for a color guard can be obtained through local veterans organizations or the Boys Scouts i.e. posting of colors, leading parades, etc.

Special Activities 

March 18, 2017 the Honor Guard posted colors with an introductory narration and sounded TAPS at a community function honoring deceased Texas Rangers interned at Tow Cemetery, Tow, Texas.

November 11, 2016 Honor Guard posted colors with narration at R.J. Richey Elementary School in Burnet, Texas in celebration of Veterans Day.

November 7, 2016 Honor Guard posted all service branch flags and POW/MIA flag and posted colors with narration and led in the pledge of allegiance to the National and State flags at the Texas Wounded Warrior Foundation annual Pro-Am Tournament held at he Escondido Golf Club in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. The mission of the Texas Wounded Warrior Foundation is to raise awareness, to honor, and to empower our Wounded United States Military Warriors who live in Texas and surrounding states, enabling them to assimilate back to daily life upon their return from combat. They seek to provide Wounded Veterans injured from combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan with funding to defray the basic costs of living incurred, as a result of the short and long-term care of those injuries.

November 5, 2016 Veterans Day observance, City of Granite Schoals. Post Colors. Harvey H. Klee member of the Highland lakes Honor Guard in his capacity as National Chaplain of The American Legion was the keynote speaker.

June 21: Armed Forces Day celebration sponsored by the Harth Foundation. Post colors. Burnet

June 3: Post colors, parade service branch flags at Kingsland Convention and Community Center. Veterans Day progarm put on b First Baptise Church, Kingsland.y

June 2: Post colors, parade service branch flags at Kingsland Convention and Community Center. Veterans Day dinner progarm put on by the Chapel of the Hills Church, Buchanan Dam.

May 25: Post colors, display Service Branch flags, sounded TAPs with Canon overture at Meadowlakes Park

May 24: Honoring the Veterans at Pardners – Posted the Colors and displayed all Service Branch flags along with MIA/KIA flag, and demonstrated the flag folding ceremony followed by the sounding of TAPS.

May 24: Impromptu prayer, recognition of veterans present and Memorial Day comments at Chapel, of the Hills church.

May 24: Carry the Load, Reveille Peak Ranch, Burnet. Post colors, display Service flags and perform Flag Folding ceremony.

May 24: Dedicate flags that flew over the National and State capitals. Highland Lakes UMC Buchanan Dam.

May 16: Marine Corps Reunion celebration. Post Colors and perform flag folding ceremony at Garst Ranch, Burnet.

May 9: Hearts & Heroes Fundraiser for Texas Wounded Warrior Foundation. Posted colors, flew Service Branch flags and performed flag folding ceremony at Garst Ranch, Burnet.

May 7: Burnet Women’s Prison. Sounded TAPS for correctional officers that passes away during the last year.

May 2: Wheelers for the Wounded, Adventureland Park. Greeted buses of wounded warriors and their families. Posted Colors and displayed Servicxe Branch flags.

March 7: Opening season for Little League in Burnet. Posted colors and paraded Service Branch flags.

February 20: Kingsland Chamber of Commerce Awards dinner. Posted Colors. Charlie was awarded Person of the Year.
